About this work

The story behind this work

Jane uses the grisaille technique in oil paint combined with gold leaf, but with touches of colour. It is a series of strong portraits with large, beautiful headdresses made of objects from nature that depict the power of higher consciousness. The headdress has a deeply spiritual meaning. It is a symbol of strength and bravery and is worn only by the most respected members of a tribe. Hints of colour can be found in the headdresses making them the focal point of the painting.
